Practice authorized NetBIOS and Windows-share discovery with built-in command-line tools.
Run these commands only against systems inside the lab or another explicitly authorized environment.
Use Windows utilities such as nbtstat and net use to enumerate network information.
- Using the command:
nbtstat -a an.ip.add.here
- This will output the NetBIOS name table from the target IP address.
- Following that command with:
nbtstat -c
- This will return the NetBIOS name cache, NetBIOS names, and their resolved IPs.
- You can also use the command:
net use
- This command will return the connection status, shared folders/drives, and network information.
